Highlights from the Surface Coating Show 2024: Driving Sustainability Through Innovation
The Surface Coating Show 2024, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Delhi, brought together innovators and experts committed to sustainability. The event highlighted the automotive industry’s role in rethinking processes and reducing environmental impact.
A strong emphasis was placed on energy-efficient solutions like low-temperature ovens. Kansai Paint demonstrated its waterborne compact painting process with baking temp operating below 85°C, while Prism showcased an IR Gas catalytic oven that uses radiation to heat only the material, significantly cutting fuel consumption and processing time.
Pretreatment methods also took the spotlight. Chemetall’s Oxsilan—a nickel- and phosphate-free solution—highlighted its ability to save vast amounts of water, equivalent to filling a swimming pool. Similarly, MKS – Atotech’s UniPrep system exemplified eco-friendly cleaning in pretreatment processes – an alternative to traditional descaling techniques.
The importance of efficient application tools was clear, with another highlight from Dürr’s new Ecobell spray system reducing overspray and maximizing resource utilization.
A Collective Drive for Change
The event was more than a showcase of technology; it was a testament to shared purpose. Discussions emphasized collaboration; and the interest for CFD tools like alsim Paint Shop was highlighted as it enables manufacturers to measure and achieve sustainability goals. We had plenty of booth visitors from renowned manufacturers in India fascinated by the capabilities of our modules. Their primary concern related to the returns from such an implementation, was adequately addressed by our experts with the help of demo of the Paint Shop modules.
Moving Forward with Hope
The Surface Coating Show 2024 left attendees inspired. It highlighted the power of collective action and innovation in shaping a sustainable future. At ESS, we’re proud to contribute with our CFD technology, helping paint shops in India innovate and validate eco-friendly practices. With our already secured booth for 2025, we hope to be a vital part of this dynamic atmosphere focused on innovation and sustainability.
